Officials say there was one reason for the smoke filled hills and hollows of Rockcastle County on Tuesday.
“Arson!” said Ky. Forest Ranger Marvin Stone.
Sand Hill has seen this kind activity before…and forest rangers believe Tuesday’s fires were set by the same people they dealt with last time.
“It’s the same ones, every year, they burn it like this,” said Stone.
They were fighting fire with fire, setting lines to keep the intentionally set fires from spreading..and destroying the scenic lands.
“You kill all the undergrowth, which is the new wood source for the future, it’s gone,” said Stone.
