Our winter storm is shattering records. 17.1" of snow fell in Lexington and that's the most ever recorded during a two day snowstorm. We've had 32.1" of snow in the last 17 days.
Firefighters from around the country put their skills on display here in Lexington this weekend. This time though, it's all in the spirit of competition.
Teams from 8 different states, including ones from as far away as Florida and Kansas compete for the right to advance to the National Championship of the Firefighters Combat Challenge.
Participators say the competition simulates what firefighters encounter on a daily basis.
The competition is a continuous series of tasks including climbing a five story tower, hoisting equipment, chopping, dragging hoses and rescuing a life size 175 pound mannequin.
Not only are those tasks strenuous, but completing the challenges wearing full gear and breathing apparatus is ample proof of the fitness required to do their job. The event ends Sunday, but the public is invited to watch in the parking lot of Rupp Arena.
