Several tributes for 9/11 victims held in Lexington

Updated: Tue 8:58 PM, Sep 11, 2012

Along with the memorial downtown, other ceremonies were performed around Lexington to remember those lost eleven years ago.

Names of victims of the terrorist attacks were read by UK's ROTC Program, and thousands of flags were planted on the campus grounds.

"It's not just historical. It has implications to our lives right now, everyday," said onlooker Wendy Henry.

A similar site graced the open grass lot downtown where yesterday a Lexington teen formed '9/11' using three thousand flags.
Just a block away in Phoenix Park, Lexington firefighters and police laid a wreath at the memorials to honor their fallen.

"This is my anniversary date, I came on the fire department twelve years ago. So really, just to be here is really an honor, to be here just to remember our brothers and sisters that have given and paid the ultimate sacrifice," said Lexington Fire Department Chaplain Cecil Tatum.

"We want to remember not just today, today is just the day we chose to come out. We want to remember them everyday and the sacrifices that they've made," Tatum continued.

Flags state-wide were asked to be lowered to half staff by Governor Beshear, also in honor of those lost.
