Mother, Nine Months Pregnant, Sentenced For Infant's Death

She's nine months pregnant, about to give birth any day, but now a southern Kentucky woman is now on her way to prison.

Sarah Davenport pleaded guilty to causing another baby's death back in November of 2005.

On Monday, a judge sentenced Davenport for the crime and had little sympathy for the expectant mother.

Davenport's attorney says he had expected the sentencing to be put on hold until his client gave birth. She's due on Saturday.

Instead, Sarah Davenport will give birth behind bars, sentenced for the death of her three-month-old son, Jeremiah.

Police say they found cocaine in Jeremiah's system. Police originally charged her with murder, but the Whitley County mother reached a plea deal to a lesser charge of manslaughter.

The judge sentenced her to five years in prison. Davenport's attorney says he will appeal that decision.
