The judge-executive of Madison County is willing to admit guilt to a charge of drinking in public, but he won't do the same for charges of alcohol intoxication and disorderly conduct.
Madison County Judge-Executive Kent Clark's lawyer tried to enter a guilty plea for him yesterday for drinking in public at the Russell County Fair. But Clark is not willing to admit guilt on the other charges. The police report says an officer ordered Clark to pour out his beer, he drank it instead.
District Judge Mike Lawson would not accept the plea and scheduled another hearing in October. Clark is represented by state Senate President David Williams.
Williams moved to dismiss the alcohol intoxication and disorderly conduct charges because the arresting officer was not in court. The judge would not grant the request.
