An explosion rocked an Eastern Kentucky town Tuesday afternoon. It happened along U.S. 25 in Pineville.

Officials tell 27NEWSFIRST a truck careened off the road and slammed into a gas pump. When the smoke cleared, a man was found dead inside the truck.

Police identified the driver of that truck as 44-year-old John Davenport from Pineville.

Police say he was traveling north when he left the road, traveled across a parking lot and ran into a gas pump at the Delta Gas station. That caused the truck to burst into flames.

A woman getting gas barely escaped getting hit by the out of control car.

Witnesses say Davenport was slumped over the wheel before he ran into the pump. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman who had just pulled into the station was lucky. Her car was damaged in the crash, but she was not hurt.

U.S. 25 was shut down for about an hour, but everything is now back to normal.
