Lexington Businesses Evacuated After Gas Line Break

There was a major interruption of business on Wednesday morning in one of the busiest shopping areas in Lexington after a gas line break.

Fire officials tell us a construction crew, working on a new entrance, hit a three inch main.

It happened at around 11:00 on Wednesday morning. Sir Barton Parkway between Star Shoot Parkway and Vendor Road was shut down for more than an hour.

We're told between 25 and 30 businesses were impacted. Some were evacuated. Others were only allowed to have restricted access.

Haz-mat crews were on the scene. They used portable air monitors to measure air quality in the area. Fire officials say they never showed any dangerous readings.

There were no injuries reported.

One lane of northbound Sir Barton Parkway is still closed as crews work.
