Scattered showers and storms continue to push across the region for this Friday. Local high water issues remain possible through the evening hours.
Governor Steve Beshear and First Lady Jane Beshear are inviting people to join them on the grounds of the State Capitol in Frankfort Saturday morning for the 2010 Governor's Derby Celebration.
The event will include arts and crafts vendors, children's activities, interactive exhibits, food, entertainment, and a food drive for the needy.
In a news release, the governor's office said the Derby Celebration will be the same scaled-down style of last year.
"Jane and I are delighted to host Kentuckians and visitors on the Capitol grounds for our third official Derby Celebration," Governor Beshear said in the news release. "Featuring breakfast, entertainment, and the hot air balloons attendees have come to expect, the event will also offer new attractions and performances, all of which will celebrate the spirit of the Commonwealth in a festive yet economical way."
The breakfast will primarily feature Kentucky Proud products. Biscuits, country ham, sausage, chicken, and muffins will be among the items for sale.
Access Soup Kitchen, God's Pantry, and Dare to Care will have volunteers at the event to collect canned goods and monetary donations for their food pantries.
Volunteers and staff for Build-A-Bed will also be on hand. Build-A-Bed is a service program that provides beds and bed accessories for children in need across the state.
The Governor's Derby Celebration will take place from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday. The event itself is free.
The Governor's Mansion and Capitol will be open for tours during the event.
