Attempts to stay warm suspected as causes in overnight fires

Lexington firefighters stayed busy early Wednesday, working two separate fires.

One home on Claredon Drive, off Trent Boulevard in Lexington, went up in flames around 1 a.m. after the people inside started a fire in the fire place.

In iWitness video captured by a 27 NEWSFIRST viewer, you can see flames spreading along the roof of the home.

It's believed the fire spread from the home's chimney.

Six people were inside the home at the time. They all managed to make it out safely.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters are also investigating whether a woman using an oven to keep warm sparked a fire inside a duplex.

That fire happened about an hour later on Fair Oaks Drive, near Alexandria Drive and Versailles Road.

The fire was mostly contained to the kitchen, causing damage to one side of the duplex.

No one was hurt.

Temperatures dipped into the 30s Wednesday morning in Lexington.
