LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A former assistant police chief in tiny Manchester, Kentucky has become the latest city official to plead guilty to racketeering charges.
Todd Roberts pleaded guilty to a federal racketeering charge yesterday.
Former mayor Daugh White and former city councilmen Vernon Hacker and Darnell Hipsher were also named in the indictment that claims they worked together over the years on a variety of crimes.
Roberts said he and Hacker asked a drug dealer to burn down a vacant house that was blocking construction of offices for the police department and a 911 center in 1999.
The dealer was paid in cocaine for his services while officials agreed to turn a blind eye to the dealer's drug business. Roberts faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a 250-thousand dollar fine.
