LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A nearly 3-month-old gorilla who was
injured several weeks ago is getting better as keepers care for her
continuously outside the exhibit.
The zoo's veterinary team says the infant has a good prognosis
despite losing part of a leg and suffering other injuries in the
April 1 incident inside her family group.
The zoo is giving the baby, who hasn't been named yet,
aggressive nutritional support and antibiotic therapy as well as
iron supplements to help with anemia.
Assistant mammal curator Candy McMahan says the baby even has
four teeth coming in and is developing normally.
She is a western lowland gorilla, the first gorilla born in
North America this year. Her parents are Mia Mojo and Mshindi.
