Investigators in Jessamine County are trying to figure out why a city sanitation worker was run over by a garbage truck.

It happened just before 10 Thursday morning on Scott Street in Wilmore.

Wilmore Police say Brandon Creech was on the back of the garbage truck, and he fell off, and somehow got underneath the truck while the driver was backing up.

We're told another employee was also on the back of the truck and tried to stop the driver, but it was too late.

"I got to my door and I heard somebody go 'stop, stop, stop,'" Wilbert Adams, who lives on Scott Street, said.

Police say the worker was awake and talking, but had visible injuries to his lower body after the accident.

Creech is at UK Hospital in fair condition. Police say he has a broken femur.
