Classes are scheduled to start this week at UK. But Sunday night, thousands of new students had a chance to get to know President Lee Todd and his wife Patsy.
It was part of the first annual "Patsy's Picnic." Along with learning about the plethora of opportunities the school offers, safety was also a serious topic.
"When parents drop their children off, they expect them to be safe, and we do too," President Todd said.
Todd points to the recent hire of Lexington Police Chief Anthany Beatty and the $1.2 million the school has spent for safety initiatives.
Student Body President Nick Phelps says if asked, nearly every student would say they feel safe on the UK campus. "It's hard to not notice what the school is doing in regards to safety," he said.
