Heavy rains force state highway closures in northeast Kentucky

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. – Several state highways in northeast Kentucky are closed where water has covered travel lanes.

As of 3 p.m., Sunday, May 2, Kentucky Department of Highways District 9 reports the following closures or impacts:

*In Lewis County, KY 344, KY 989, KY 1021, KY 3311, KY 377 closed to through traffic. Several sections of KY 59 are reduced to one lane.

*In Greenup County, KY 244 at the railroad tunnel and KY 207 near Flatwoods closed to through traffic.

*In Rowan County, KY 32 downtown between US 60 Bypass and Main Street is closed.

*In Rowan County, KY 32 downtown between US 60 Bypass and Main Street is closed. A mudslide has closed KY 801 at milepoint 5 at Cave Run Lake. It will remain closed overnight and crews will begin debris removal Monday.

Highway crews in counties throughout Kentucky are monitoring road conditions as heavy rains continue to swell creeks and streams.

Motorists are advised to travel with caution, especially along highways adjacent to streams, and remember that even a few inches of water can float a car. Remember to never drive through high water.
