An expansion of U.S. 25 in Scott County will force some homes, businesses and even more than 30 graves to move.
Close to 35 graves near the front entrance of the Crestlawn Cemetery will have to be uprooted. The state plans to widen Highway 25 from two to four lanes. The expansion is scheduled to be completed by 2010.
"To have to do it at the expense of thirty families is a lot to ask," says Annetta Scott. Scott's parents are buried at Crestlawn. The replacement of the graves doesn't sit will with her and other family members.
The state plans to hold a meeting with family where the the engineers of project will be on hand. The meeting on September 10, 2007 will discuss the plans to obtain the land from the Crestlawn and options family members have.
