Man flown to hospital after shooting

One man is in the hospital, and another is in jail, following a shooting.

Kentucky State Police say they received a call around 3:30 Monday afternoon about a man shot beside a road in the Smoot Creek area of Letcher County.

When police arrived, they say they found Barney Stanger with two gunshot wounds to his abdomen.

He was taken to a hospital in Whitesburg, then airlifted to Holston Valley hospital in Tennessee. Stanger is listed in stable condition.

Police say they later arrested the suspect, David Wayne Morris, at his home in Letcher County. Police say they also found the weapon used in the shooting at Morris' home.

Morris is charged with first degree assault. He's being held in the Letcher County Jail.
