Space Shuttle Set For Homecoming Today

Updated: Tue 11:51 AM, Aug 21, 2007

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER (AP) - Endeavour soon could be "Homeward Bound."

The astronauts were awakened by the Simon and Garfunkel song this morning. And despite a shower in the distance, Mission Control says the weather looks favorable for a return to the Florida landing strip today.

NASA has a couple of opportunities to bring the shuttle home from nearly two weeks in space. If managers decide to go with the first chance, they'll tell commander Scott Kelly and pilot Charlie Hobaugh (HOH'-baw) to do their de-orbit burn shortly, setting up Endeavour for a Florida landing at 12:32 p.m. Eastern Time.

Space agency managers say they're completely confident the orbiter will make a safe landing, despite a small hole in a heat-shield tile.
