A man is in the hospital tonight with serious injuries after being hit by a car.

It happened around 8 p.m. Thursday on Dennis Drive, off Nicholasville Road.

Lexington Police say the driver of the car was headed westbound on Dennis Drive when he approached a lawn care vehicle with a trailer parked on the side of the road. The driver told police he was temporarily blinded by the sun when he realized he would rear-end the other vehicle. He says he swerved and hit a man standing next to that lawn-care vehicle.

The crash severed the victim's leg. He was taken to U.K. hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation. Police have not released the names of those involved in the crash.
