Our focus now turns to the potential of record lows tonight. Many areas may wake up to thermometer readings below zero.
The U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration has shut down six Kentucky coal mines.
The mines were located in Bell and Harlan Counties.
They are D & C Mining Corp., Straight Creek #1 Mine of the Left Fork Mining Co. Inc., RB #12 of Manalapan Mining Co., Mine #1 of Conshor Mining, Butcher Branch of the Red Bird Coal Co., and Mine #1 of Cawood Enterprises LLC.
The closures came after federal inspections resulted in numerous violations and citations.
MSHA says the mines will stay closed until the violations are corrected.
In addition, two of the six mines are now being sued by the Labor Department for notifying workers that an inspector was on property.
