You can actually help efforts to contain the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico with your hair.
A nonprofit group called "Matter of Trust" is collecting hair clippings from salons around the country to be used in booms that soak up oil.
Many salons are helping in the project, including the Paul Mitchell School on Boston Road in Lexington.
"It just came to our attention," Lisa Tilton of the Paul Mitchell School said. "It's easy for us. We do hair, so why not save it and use it for a good cause."
Hair is able to collect oil easily, so that's why it's being used in the booms.
The Paul Mitchell School is planning to donate several boxes of hair clippings each month.
