Family and friends gathered on the one year anniversary of a violent DUI crash to remember three lives cut short. Emily Preston, 10, Caleb Hildenbrandt, 11, and Nicholas Helton, 12, were killed when the van they were riding in slammed into a tree along a Jessamine County road and burst into flames.
An adult passenger in the van, Lori Latham, died weeks later at UK Hospital. Police say the driver, Melissa Helton, was drinking when she ran off the road. Her murder trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 1st.
But those who gathered for a candelight vigil at Nicholasville Elementary Wednesday night focused on honoring their memories of the victims. More than 100 people gathered to celebrate the children's lives. Many shared their thoughts and prayers, even those who didn't know the victim's personally.
