Lightning In Wisconsin Brings Storms Death Toll To 26

The death toll from storm systems flooding the Midwest is rising, after three people were killed by a bolt of lighting.

The lightning struck a utility pole at a flooded intersection in Madison, Wisconsin. A woman and her child who were standing at a bus stop were killed. A man who tried to help them was also electrocuted.

At least 26 people have died from the storms that flooded the Upper Midwest and the remnants of Tropical Storm Erin that soaked Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri.

The rain largely subsided in Ohio yesterday afternoon. But now Ohioans have a new force of nature to deal with: baking heat.

Rain is still pelting other parts of the Midwest. A powerful thunderstorm hit Chicago with 50 mile an hour winds yesterday, and another storm system is moving over Iowa and Minnesota today.
