It started out as a frightening morning in a Lexington neighborhood on Thursday after reports that someone tried to abduct a young boy from the bus stop.

The scare started at Eureka Springs Drive near Baybrook Road, but it turns out the whole thing was just a big misunderstanding.

An 11-year-old boy told his parents that a couple in a red pickup truck pulled up to him this morning and told him they wanted to give him a ride. He says he refused and then ran home to tell his parents, who then called police.

Police spent much of the morning looking for the truck.

But a woman who was watching 27 NEWSFIRST at noon called to tell us that the whole thing was just a misunderstanding.

Sandra Riley says her children ride the same bus as the 11-year-old boy. She says she dropped her own kids off at the bus stop and later saw the boy walking alone.

Riley says she and her husband told the boy that he had missed the bus and that he needed to go home and tell his parents. She says she apologizes if he misunderstood her intentions.

Morton Middle School sent a letter home with children, to tell them about what happened.
