Students honored for efforts to feed the homeless

Some central Kentucky students are being honored for their efforts to feed the homeless in the area.

Bluegrass Baptist School, Sayre Upper School and Sayre Middle School were the top three donators for God's Pantry private school food drive.

12 schools in all participated and donated more than 24,000 pounds of food, valued at more than $38,000.

Organizers say it's a great way for children to learn about the value of giving back.

In all, the schools donated 98 barrels of food.

The winning schools also received a monetary donation from Whitaker Bank.

This is the 13th year Fayette County private school students have participated in the God's Pantry Drive.

In that time, they've donated more than 300,000 pounds of food.
