Hit and run victim dies of injuries week after incident

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Kentucky State Police report a Barbourville man who was struck by a truck in a hit-and-run accident died from his injuries yesterday.

Thirty-seven year old Edward Darrell Wayne Smith died at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. A state trooper found Smith lying in the road unconscious early on the afternoon of Aug. 19.

Witnesses told authorities Smith had been walking northbound on Ky. 11 in Knox County when he was struck by a pickup. The witnesses said the vehicle had dark-tinted windows. The truck fled the scene.

Apparently Smith was trying to flag down a vehicle when the incident occured.

The KSP is asking for help. Anyone who may have information is asked to call (606) 573-3131.
