Anniversary of Flight 5191 Crash

Today marks the one year anniversary of the crash of Comair Flight 5191.

The plane took off from the wrong runway at Lexington's Blue Grass Airport on August 27, 2006. It crashed shortly after take-off.

49 People aboard the flight died. James Polehinke, the flight's first officer, was the only survivor. He's recovering in Florida.

A private memorial is scheduled today for the victim's families. Sunday, a public memorial was held at Southland Christian Church. More than a thousand people attended.

In a hearing last month, National Transportation Safety Board investigators said failure by Comair pilots to notice clues they were headed down the wrong runway was the primary cause of last summer's deadly plane crash.

Lawsuits filed against Comair and Polehinke are still pending.
Family members for more than 30 victims have filed suits.
Ten of them have been settled out of court.
Comair has filed suits against both the US Government, and Blue Grass Airport.
The airline claims both the Federal Aviation Administration, and the airport should share blame for the crash.
