LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - The co-pilot who survived the crash of Comair Flight 51-91 at Lexington's Blue Grass Airport and the widow of the captain who was killed have filed separate lawsuits in U.S. District Court.
The suits filed in Lexington name the federal government, the airport and others as defendants.
Amy Clay alleges that a number of people were negligent by failing to ensure a variety of safeguards to prevent the accident. Her husband was pilot Jeffrey Clay, who died along with 48 others in the August 27th crash last year.
First Officer James Polehinke was at the controls of the plane and was the only survivor. His suit makes similar claims as the one filed by the pilot's widow. The suits were filed last Friday.
Polehinke has also filed suit in Fayette Circuit Court against the company that designed the runway lighting at the airport.
