Fletcher Seeks USDA Disaster Assistance

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Governor Ernie Fletcher is asking for federal drought relief for Kentucky farmers.

Fletcher sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Agriculture asking for assistance because of crop losses. He said drought has hit corn and cattle farmers hard.

Fletcher said Kentucky is in severe to extreme drought and "is truly in a state of disaster."

Fletcher is also instructing the Kentucky Office of Insurance to relax licensing requirements to allow insurance adjusters from other states to work in Kentucky to help process insurance claims for crop losses.
