CATLETTSBURG, Ky. (AP) - A state police dispatcher has entered not-guilty pleas to a pair of felony counts, one of them involving her illegally acting as a police officer.
Judge Marc Rosen set a December 17th trial for 39-year-old Leslie Pelphrey of Martha, some 80 miles east of Lexington.
Pelphrey was arraigned in Boyd Circuit Court on charges of impersonating a peace officer and first-degree perjury. The impersonation charge stems from an incident that occurred on June 15th. After leaving work at the Ashland state police post, Pelphrey allegedly tailed another motorist she believed to be driving erratically. When the woman pulled into the driveway of her home, Pelphrey allegedly pulled in behind her, demanded to see her driver's license and proof of insurance. She detained the woman until a police officer arrived, but the woman was never charged with a crime.
Pelphrey is free on bond and has been placed on paid leave by the state police following her indictment. She's a 14-year veteran of the agency.
