Man arrested after police chase

A man is under arrest after police say he led them on a high-speed chase.

It started around 5:30 Sunday morning, after a Somerset Police officer said he was flagged down by a driver reporting a suspicious person at the Speedway on South U.S. 27.

When the officer arrived in the parking lot, he came across 57-year-old Darrell Bandy, who reported his vehicle was having electrical problems.

Police say Bandy then suddenly pulled out of the parking lot, and sped off down U.S. 27, then onto the Highway 80 Bypass.

Police say they tried to pull over Bandy for erratic driving, but they say he kept driving at speeds over 80 miles per hour.

Police say the chase continued for around 15 miles until Bandy stopped his vehicle, then tried to run off on foot.

Police say they then caught up with him, but had to use a Taser on him because he wouldn't cooperate.

Bandy was then taken to a hospital for treatment, then lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center.

Bandy is now charged with fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, wanton endangerment, resisting arrest, and failure to maintain insurance.
