Stricter water restrictions could be in the future for Lexington. Kentucky American Water said Thursday the city could go into an all out ban next week.

Lexington has been under a phase three water restriction. At Thursday's meeting of the city's new water conservation appeals board; Kentucky American Water president Nick Rowe said our current mandatory restrictions may not been enough.

He warned the city and other communities Kentucky American serves could be in phase four, a total ban on outdoor watering as early as next week if things don't change fast.

Right now, the level of the Kentucky river is low as eastern Kentucky suffers in an extreme drought.

The city of Lexington says it's vital that people follow the required watering schedule. Not following it could get you a $250 fine.
