Double fires at convenience store lead to arson arrest

PIKEVILLE, KY - The Kentucky State Police have arrested a 19-year old Pike County man and charged him with arson in connection wtih fires Friday and Saturday at a local convenience store.

Luther Edward Abbott of Raccoon, Kentucky was arrested early Saturday and charged by authorities with arson in the first degree following two reports of fires at the same business and an investigation by a K-S-P arson detective.

Early Friday, Pike County 9-1-1 received a call reporting a fire at the Zebulon "Double Kwik." The John's Creek Fire Department responded to the call and after examining the scene requested an arson investigator from the K-S-P. Then a second call reporting yet another fire at the same business came early Saturday morning.

According to a K-S-P report, Detective Don Parker found evidence that led authorities to Abbott. Both fires were determined to be arson. Abbott is lodge in the Pike County Detention Center. An investigation is continuing.
