Lexington Citizen Police Academy named number one in nation

A big honor for the Lexington Police Citizen Police Academy.

Lexington Police say the academy was named number one in the nation at the recent National Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association Awards.

The organization was named "Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association of The Year."

This makes the second time the academy has won this award.

Lexington Police say the Citizen Police Academy has been one of its most popular programs since 1997.

Police say the CPA gives people insight into the professionalism of officers and the day-to-day operations of police.

Those taking part in the academy get classroom style lessons and hands-on demonstrations about driving techniques, robbery and homicide investigations, building searches, and K-9 officers, among many other topics.

For information on how to join the next Lexington Police Citizen Police Academy class, call Officer Debbie Wagner at 859-258-3600.
