LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Thousands of disabled Kentuckians may be about to get the help they need to continue living and working in their communities.
Officials with the state Health and Family Services Cabinet say federal authorities have approved a sweeping state plan. The plan will use Medicaid money to pay for home and community services for people with mental retardation and physical disabilities.
The state agreed to pay to help people with disabilities stay at home instead of being forced to enter a nursing home or residential center.
Cabinet Secretary Mark Birdwhistell says the plan goes a long way toward providing the right care at the right time at the right place.
