Officer And Former Officer Charged With Assault

RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) - One police officer and one former police officer, both from central Kentucky, have been indicted on misdemeanor charges stemming from a July Fourth vehicle pursuit.

Former Berea lieutenant Billy Beavers and Richmond Senior Patrolman Stephen Parker are charged with one count each of fourth-degree assault and one count each of first-degree official misconduct.

According to the indictment, Beavers kicked 40-year-old James Hunt, 40, of Lexington, and caused physical injury -- quoting the indictment -- "under circumstances which constituted excessive use of force."

The indictment also says Parker jerked Hunt from the automobile, threw him on the ground and struck him.
