FAA says northern Kentucky - Cincinnati Airport delays doubled

NORTHERN, KY - CINCINNATI (AP) - Federal officials say delays at the
Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport nearly doubled this summer. That's despite a more than five percent drop in
overall flights.

New Federal Aviation Administration figures show 464 flights during June, July and August were delayed arriving or departing the airport in Hebron, Kentucky. That's an almost 94 percent increase over the number of stalled flights last summer.

F-A-A officials say 72 percent of flights are on schedule. Year-to-date statistics through July show 2007 has the most delayed flights in more than a decade.

Officials say many of the delays are caused by the overtaxed air
traffic control system. The F-A-A is urging Congress to approve a
bill that would update and streamline air traffic control equipment.
