Insight Cable to air anti-McConnell ad

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky's largest cable television provider has switched course in deciding to air a commercial critical of Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell.

The ad claims the Kentucky lawmaker inappropriately helped a
Kentucky nonprofit group obtain eight (m) million dollars in grants
because of its ties to a lobbyist who is a former McConnell assistant.

McConnell campaign spokesman Justin Brasell says the ad is "patently untrue." He says the campaign might again try to keep the ad off the air.

The commercial originally was scheduled to air Thursday during the University of Louisville football game on E-S-P-N-2. But it was pulled from Insight Communications' rotation after the National Republican Senatorial Committee complained that the ad was
inaccurate.

Insight spokeswoman Sandy Colony says the company at first chose
not to show the ad in an attempt to "exercise prudent judgment."
But after lawyers reviewed the ad, she says the company decided it
could air.

David Donnelly is national campaign director for the Public Campaign Action Fund, which produced the ad. He says the group will attempt to air it Monday during E-S-P-N's "Monday Night Football"
broadcast.
