South Carolina man killed after thrown from truck, run over

(LONDON, KY.) - A South Carolina man died early Saturday after he lost control of his cargo truck, veered into the median, rolled the vehicle, was ejected and run over in the opposite lanes of Interstate 75 in Laurel County.

The Kentucky State Police London Post was called to assist the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office with the multi-vehicle collision shortly after 6 a.m. at mile marker #41.

KSP Trooper Greg Hill identified the victim as 29-year old Gregory A. Collins of Easley, S.C. Authorities said Collins ultimately landed in the northbound lane of I-75 and was struck by a tractor-trailer driven by 58-year old Donald E. Roddy of Dowling, Michigan. Collins was pronounced dead at the scene by the Laurel County Coroner’s Office.

Trooper Hill is investigating the mishap assisted by the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, the Laurel County EMS, the Laurel County Fire Department, the Laurel County Coroner’s Office and other officer’s from the Kentucky State Police.
