The governor's task force on campus safety has released it's long awaited list of recommendations aimed at enhancing safety and security at all Kentucky colleges and universities.

U.K. didn't sit back and wait for those recommendations to come out. They've spent $1.3 million in the past year and a half to improve campus safety; implementing many of the suggestions in the 24 page report from the task force.

Those recommendations include: improved lighting on campus, increased use of closed circuit monitoring at strategic points, and installation of sprinklers in all residence halls.

The task force also recommends clearly communicated contingency plans for lock-downs and evacuations through instant messaging, something UK had already been planning even before the disaster at Virginia Tech.
