The world's largest yearling sale begins a 15-day run today and despite a record 5,553 yearlings cataloged, buyer restraint is being predicted.

Analysts say there have been overall declines that have put dents in the juvenile and subsequent yearling sales.

Few observers expect this year's Keeneland Yearling Sale in Lexington to match last year's, which produced across-the-board gains for a fourth straight year and a world-record gross of more than $399 million.
