Long-time swimming coach named national coach of the year

A Madison County swimming coach has received a big honor.

Tim Cahill was named the 2010 National Coach of the Year by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association.

According to EKU, Cahill has coached the Model Laboratory School and Arlington swim teams the past 30 years, along with a team at EKU for the past 10 years.

He was recognized during a banquet in South Dakota this week.

Cahill was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic and liver cancer. He's currently undergoing treatment.

His friends, along with current and former swimmers, raised thousands of dollars in his name during a recent Relay for Life event.
