Wal-mart stores across the country are pulling flip-flops made in china after customers complained of rashes or burns developed on their feet.

A Texas woman says her feet started showing signs of a rash about three weeks after she started wearing the sandals in July.

As the scarring worsened into the exact pattern of the flip flop straps, she filed a complaint with Wal-mart.

Wal-mart says it will now do more testing on the flip flops.

I got the daisy flip flops at Walmart last year and just started to wear them this year. After a month I notice tiny red hard dots that ended up big boils on the ball of my feet. Very painful full of pus and burn. wouldn't heal to fast and I'm scared to put on shoes it hurts. I will be seeing a doctor this week to see if I need meds (cream)or something. We didn't have all these problems with products that was made in the USA in my day. It seems these other places are not as regulated.

I've read through the comments on here and I"m sure I've had it worse than everyone... It started out as bumps along the strap lines from the flip flops. I wear rubber boots to work and it caused it to escalate. My feet oozed and my skin would stick to my socks and I'd have to rip them off. November I started going to the doctor and it still kept getting worse. In January, I went to the doctor because it still wasn't any better, and he told me I had staph and gangrene and was about a week away from losing my feet. Luckily, they are 'were' better actually because I bought some flip flops from them this year and my feet have broke out again! So don't buy from there this year either! Let me know what all you find out about whats in them! My doctor said it was contact dermatitis to something my feet didn't like. My e-mail addy is (edited)

WHAT I'M WANTING TO KNOW THIS YEAR IS ANY ONE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM? I BROUGHT THE BLACK AND BROWN ONE WITH NO DASIEY AND I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM MAY 2008 . MAYBE IT'S IN THE BLOOD NOW?

Bought some metal-looking (silver) flip flops from Wal-mart and immediately started getting shocked by everthing from light switches to the kitchen faucet (no kidding). Have lived in the same place for over 10 years so I assumed it was the flip flops. What are the Chinese putting in these things? Left-over metal shavings? I thought flip flops were made of rubber and you shouldn't be getting shocked. Will pay more for flip flops from the USA if they won't kill me.

I had an unfortunate encounter with the flip flops as well. I filed a complaint with the CPSC. A woman came out, took one of my shoes, gave me a receipt for it and a report and left. I haven't heard another word since then. The burns healed up ok, but those spots on my feet are very sensitive now. I just want to know what is in the shoes!!!!

I had the same burn from Wal-Mart flip flops and actually sent one of the shoes with an AIG representative for testing, on the condition that I would be told the results before any type of settlement would be considered. Months went by with no word from them, and when I did finally get through to a rep, she told me that there was excessive abrasives found, but wouldn't tell me what kinds. A lawyer advised me to send a letter requesting a copy of test results and that my shoe be returned. AIG responded with a letter, letting me know that they do not divulge test results and they would try to get my shoe back as soon as possible. That was over a month ago. I just want to know what the chemical or abrasive was. Is that too much to ask. All I've gotten is the run around. PS Margie in Springfield, I emailed you. Give me a shout back if you can.

I stumbled across this page while searching for American made flip-flops. Unfortunately I have not had much luck in finding any except at http://www.okabashi.com/ I hope those of you affected by these Chinese made flip-flops reconsider further shopping at Wal-Mart and the purchasing of Chinese made products. Both tend to have many adverse environmental and social impacts. As an environmental scientist I have done considerable research into the business practices of Wal-Mart, and it is clear to me that the only thing important to them is squeezing as much revenue as possible out of the consumer. For a candid look at their practices I recommend the movie "Wal-Mart: The high cost of low price". Buying American may cost a little more, but in general I believe you will reap savings in quality, product life, and benefits to our social economy.

The the woman who first reported the problem wore some latex gloves for several hours to check herself for a latex allergies, and had no problems, and has no history of latex sensitivity.

I got tired of everything being made in China and I figured I'd try to support our local KY folks when making my purchases. I went to the local bakery and bought a loaf of bread. I went to my corner Kroger and looked for a jar of peanut butter locally made but couldn't find it so I bought some Kroger Brand. I think Kroger is based out of Louisville so that's close enought to local. I looked for jelly and found some near the pharmacy and figured it must be health food cuz it's near the pharmacy. I bought it, took it home and spread it on the bread with the peanut butter. That was the worst tasting jelly I ever had. Word of warning; DO NOT buy KY Jelly. I don't know what these folks from KY put in it, but it tastes nasty. I should have bought Goober that has them both mixed in the same jar!

c in fkt. Do you really believe if Obama is elected he will force us to be Muslim? Even if he did, Islam is a peaceful religion. Everybody has their nut cases. Don't blame the religion as a whole.

Posted by: Joe Location: Richmond on Sep 14, 2007 at 10:04 AM
I don't know about you, but I didn't even have to wear the flip flops in question and I still get a rash everytime I walk into Wal-Mart.

Posted by: c Location: fkt on Sep 14, 2007 at 09:04 AM
Everything is made in China! We buy it because we cannot afford the American products. If the government wants to help us, then raise salaries so we can afford American made products. Oh! wait! The foreign companies are now buying America one piece at a time. So there will not be American products to buy even if we can afford them. At the rate the foreigners are buying businesses in this country, there will not be an America in a few years! We will be Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Iranian, and a host of others, everything but AMERICAN! That's the government's plan, to sell us out to other countries. That was Bill Clinton's plan all along! Obama will do even worst, he'll just force us to be Muslim or die. We will be in a "holy" war of our own if he's elected. The sad part is, most Americans could care less! We cannot agree on anything, thus we are divided and cannot stand much longer! Some say foreign businesses brings jobs, but at what cost to our future as a country!

T think by now isn't it ovious that chinese hate us.

Posted by: Nanny Location: KY on Sep 13, 2007 at 11:18 PM
I'm all for not buying the crap from China, but if we don't buy it, then we won't have anything. We can't even get clothes made here.

I have worked for home depot and lowes, and I can tell you, that most of the merchandise in those stores are made in China, other than the lumber which is produced in Canada. Check the fine print even products you think are American products are out sourced to Foreign Lands. Thank your rich Republican C.E.O'S, and Oilmen.

Posted by: sgt howard Location: ky on Sep 13, 2007 at 03:02 PM
but remember democrats you all want bush out, let the clintons back in and soon all products will be made in China. and yes Walmart should be held liable as well.

Walmart sucks. Almost everything they have comes from China. When will this country wake up and boycott all the junk these commie sob's are flooding The U.S. with? Boycott China and Walmart!!!! That's the only way to stop it!!!!!

Posted by: Solee Location: Uvalde,Texas on Sep 12, 2007 at 06:58 PM
I am stating to get the "Rash-Bumps" on the tops of both feet. I also have like a watery-like blister on the 2nd toe of my right foot. Don't know if this is related or not. But the rash is. I Strongly agree....WE NEED MORE AMERICAN MADE PRODUCTS AND THIS WOULDN'T HAPPEN!!!

Posted by: steven Location: london on Sep 12, 2007 at 06:45 PM
boycott china in all merchandise and foods .everything is tainted or harmful from them .it will be extremely difficult because of probably the thousands of items out there , but i for one will look very closely at where things are from and will not purchase them .

I developed the same rash from these flip flops. They were yellow with white daisies and pink straps. The first time it happened, I thought I had gotten poison ivy under the straps, it was really itchy and blistered. Three weeks later when I had the flip flops on for no more than 10 minutes, the exact same rash appeared again. This time, I realized it had to be the shoes and threw them in the closet with the intention of throwing them away. It took the rash nearly 3 weeks to disappear the second time, but I'm still left with a dark v on the tops of my feet. I was shocked today when I heard about the story and then after some investigation on the internet, found I had experienced the same reaction as many others.

Stop buying things from China when are you going stop when someone dies because of something they sent over?

Posted by: cutter Location: South of East KY. on Sep 12, 2007 at 03:03 PM
Yes there seems to be a problem with products from China... but seriously, Where does one find this cheap plastic carpolla... THAT'S RIGHT, the REAL problem is with Wal-Mart. If an item is successful at marketing, Wally-World will find a knock-off at half the cost. STOP SHOPPING AT WAL-MART

Posted by: Kendra Location: Prestonsburg, KY on Sep 12, 2007 at 02:52 PM
I received an email from a friend about these flips flops that had been circulated. Within the email, there were pictures the lady had taken of her feet over the course of many weeks...Blisters and everything, in the shape of the flip flips...how absurd...and she made sure to note that she was not allergic to rubber or latex. Also, she noted that Wal-Mart seemed to want to shrug it off and not pay any attention to the problem.

To paraphrase Lenin "The Chinese will manufacture the rope we hang ourselves with". And the rope will be coated with lead as well.

Made In China! seems almost all recalls in the past few months have these three words. do we need to worry about Osama Bin Laden now that this low key TERRORISM from china is being allowed by our own goverment?

I have the same burn marks on both feet.Just thought I had an allergic reaction. It seems to have healed but has left scars. Was wondering if any female has had the same reaction to bras.Have the same burn under where the waist strap is.

How many more times does this have to happen before we stop importing products from China?

Posted by: Renea Location: Williamsburg on Sep 12, 2007 at 10:50 AM
We need more American made products and things like this wouldn't happen.
