The Courthouse Area Design Review Board approved the developer's application for a scaled back version of Centrepointe at a meeting Wednesday afternoon. The scaled-down version of the skyscraper is 10 stories shorter than the original version. It also no longer has a multi-tiered design.
Originally, developers had hoped to have CentrePointe built by this fall but ran into financing problems, leaving an empty field in downtown Lexington. Questions about financing for the new design were also raised at Wednesday's meeting. Developer Dudley Webb told reporters after the meeting that two lenders have shown interest in financing the project. He says they hope to start construction after the
World Equestrian Games, sometime this winter.
