Coyote Attacks Child

RYE, N.Y. (AP) - A suburban New York police chief is warning
residents not to let small children play outdoors after coyotes
attacked two little girls just days apart.
Rye Police Chief William Connors said Wednesday that officers
and wildlife experts have been authorized to shoot the coyotes on
sight and to kill any that are trapped.
Coyotes are common in some New York City suburbs but normally
avoid human interaction. Connors says there is no indication the
animals are rabid and no explanation for the recent attacks.
A 3-year-old suffered injuries not considered life threatening
when she was attacked while playing in her backyard Tuesday night.
Two coyotes attacked a 6-year-old girl Friday in her front yard
about a mile and a half away. She was treated for scratches and
bites.
