LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A civic activist and Republican fund-raiser from Lexington has been tapped as an alternate U.S. delegate to the 62nd United Nations General Assembly session that begins next week. The White House has announced Kelly Knight's appointment as an alternate, along with Rodger Young of Michigan.
The White House announced the appointments yesterday. The two will accompany newly appointed delegates Ted Poe of Texas, William Delahunt, of Massachusetts and George Pataki, the former Republican governor of New York. All must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
The 45-year-old Knight spearheaded fund-raising for prominent Kentucky Republicans and President Bush during his 2004 re-election bid.
