Former state senator dies in home

CYNTHIANA, Ky. (AP) - Former state Sen. Ed Ford of Cynthiana has
died at his home in Cynthiana.
He was 80.
Tom Ware, owner of Ware Funeral Home in Cynthiana, said funeral
arrangements haven't yet been made for the former Democratic
lawmaker who once headed former Gov. Paul Patton's executive
cabinet.
Leading Kentucky political figures praised Ford's achievements
Friday afternoon.
Gov. Steve Beshear said Ford was one of the driving forces for
improving education in Kentucky. Beshear also called him "an
honest and loyal friend."
The governor ordered flags at all state office buildings be
lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on the day of his
funeral.
Ford is survived by five sons and a daughter. His wife, Dorothy
Monson Ford, died in 2007.
