FRANKFORT - The Kentucky State Medical Examiner's Office was scheduled Saturday to perform an autopsy on the body found yesterday in the Licking River on the Fleming County, Nicholas County line between Flemingsburg and Carlisle.

Authorities say the autopsy results would most likely determine the direction of the investigation. The medical examiner may also be able to determine the identity of the victim through medical and dental records.

Kentucky State Police and the Fleming County Sheriff's Office are the lead agencies determining how the as yet unidentifited person died - from accidental drowning or the victim of foul play.

Two fishermen noticed the body floating in the Licking River and called authorities. State police along Fleming County Sheriff's deputies got to the scene shortly after getting the 9-1-1 call.

Authorities called in the search and rescue boat to recover the body which appeared to be caught on some deris.

Fleming County Coroner Joe Denton then took custody of the body which was later transported to the State Medical Examiners Office in Frankfort. Very little had been determined by Saturday afternoon of how the body ended up in the river or what caused the death.

This recent discovery comes just a little over a month after police pulled a 15 year old boy from the nearly the same spot in the river. But police say they are fairly certain there is no connection between the body found today and the 15 year old found on July 31st.
