Homicide investigation underway after man's body found in home

A homicide investigation is underway after a man's body was found inside a home.

Police say the discovery was made around 6 Wednesday morning at a home on Denney Drive near Lawrenceburg.

That's in the Honeysuckle neighborhood off U.S. 127 in northern Anderson County.

The Anderson County coroner says the victim is 53-year-old Richard Shamas.

Dispatchers say they received a call from the Shamas' wife this morning, asking for help.

The Anderson County Sheriff's Department was the first to arrive at the scene.

When deputies found the Shamas' body they called state police for assistance.

Maria Cataldi, lives a few doors down from the home, she says she discovered the investigation by accident, "I walked down the hill before and thought it was a yard sale."

Another neighbor, who lives directly across the street says she never would have expected anything like this to happen here.

"They were really good neighbors, I don't know what went wrong," says Sandra Walker.

Police say they do have a suspect in mind in this case, and they also say that person knew the victim.

Police also say this was an isolated incident.
