The state will honor a fallen Kentucky soldier, and a former state senator who recently died, by lowering flags at all state office buildings to half-staff Thursday.
Governor Steve Beshear's office made the announcement Wednesday.
According to the Department of Defense, 29-year-old Pfc. Russell Madden died June 23 in Afghanistan, after insurgents attacked his vehicle with rocket fire.
Madden was a native of Dayton, Kentucky.
Funeral services for Madden will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 at the Divine Mercy Parish in Bellevue. Burial services will follow at the St. Stephen Cemetery in Fort Thomas.
Also Thursday, funeral services will be held for former Kentucky State Senator Ed Ford.
Ford died last Friday.
His funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 1 at Cynthiana Christian Church in Cynthiana.
In honor of both Madden and Ford, flags at all Kentucky state office buildings will be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Thursday.
