Man in critical condition after shooting himself during police chase

A man is in critical condition at UK hospital after shooting himself during a high speed chase down I-75.

State police say 62-year-old Alan Mitchell failed to stop when police tried to pull him over near mile marker 110.

He led them on a chase that reached speeds of up to 95 miles an hour.

Mitchell eventually pulled over near mile marker 125 in Scott County where, police say, he shot himself and continues to drive away. He hit the end of a trooper's patrol car, crossed over four lanes of traffic and finally hit a barrier.

Mitchell faces charges of fleeing and evading, DUI and speeding.

Police found 7.25 pounds of marijuana in his car and drug paraphernalia.

Mitchell is from Florida and is wanted in both Ohio and Florida on drug and traffic charges.
